Bill McClenahan

Bill is a Partner in the firm and has been involved in Wisconsin state government since 1980. With a background in law, he is especially experienced with complex and controversial issues, including those related to the environment and utilities. He oversaw the successful government and public relations efforts against the proposed Crandon Mine. Bill served on the Department of Natural Resources Mercury Citizen Advisory Committee and has represented developers of natural gas power plants and wind energy projects., He currently represents the Waukesha Water Utility on water supply and conservation issues, and advocates for telecommunications companies. He is also experienced in legislative issues concerning non-profit organizations.

Recently, in addition to his successful negotiations on the Great Lakes Compact, Bill has been closely involved with the Governor’s Task Force on Global Warming on behalf of tribal and wind energy interests.

Bill joined MS&A in 2000. He previously worked as a regulatory attorney and lobbyist at the state’s largest law firm. Bill also worked in the Wisconsin Legislature for 18 years, including for the Senate Minority Leader, the budget-writing Joint Committee on Finance, and the chairs of committees that oversee telecommunications issues and state agency administrative rules.

He is a former newspaper reporter.

Bill graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is a journalism graduate of UW-Oshkosh.

Bill is also a member of the
Association of Wisconsin Lobbyists (AWL).
