Martin Schreiber

Former Democratic Governor Marty Schreiber is a prominent figure in Wisconsin political circles. He provides more than 40 years of political insight to his clients. His political and business experience ranges from State Senator, Lieutenant Governor and Governor to insurance executive, publisher and business owner.

Marty was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate in 1962 at the age of 23, the youngest Senator in state history. He served in the Senate for eight years until his election as Lieutenant Governor. As Lieutenant Governor, he was also President of the State Senate and its presiding officer. Marty turned this ceremonial office into a vehicle for change, by developing the nursing home ombudsman program, advocating for community care organizations as alternatives to nursing homes, and leading the Governor’s Council of Consumer Affairs. Marty was nationally recognized for his leadership as one of the nation’s most active Lieutenant Governors.

Marty became Governor in 1977. Governor Schreiber created the Wisconsin Fund (a program to help local communities and industries develop and pay for clean water programs). He also worked to reform the state civil service system and reorganize the Wisconsin court system. He received a Common Cause award for open and honest government and left office with a $1 billion surplus.

After leaving the Governor’s office, Marty worked as an insurance executive and publisher of a nationally recognized financial management journal.

Marty began his successful career as a public affairs consultant in 1988. His firm represents the interests of Fortune 500 companies, statewide associations, tribal governments, contractors and labor unions, school districts, nonprofits and others. His extensive experience – as well as his charm, wit and activism in the community – keeps him well-respected by state, federal and Milwaukee area officials, as well as other opinion leaders.

Marty’s clients value his strategic thinking, his contacts and his integrity, as well as his commitment to meet or exceed client expectations. They also cite his success at building a team at MS&A that shares those attributes.

Marty recognizes the importance of being actively involved in the community. He currently serves as President of the Milwaukee Public Library Board of Trustees and the Milwaukee County Federated Library System. He also serves as a board member on the World Festivals, Inc. Board of Trustees, the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center and is Chairman of the Lutheran Special Schools Fundraising Board.

A native of Milwaukee, Marty attended Valparaiso University and the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He has a doctorate of law from Marquette University.
